The Gardens

Far beyond a mere vegetal frame, the château’s surroundings compose a carefully structured and vibrant landscape, shaped and refined through the centuries. Gardens, tree-lined avenues, and sweeping perspectives extend the very essence of the estate, accompanying each visit with a natural and harmonious continuity.

For several years, the estate’s teams have been working to match this landscaping heritage with strict ecological management. The site welcomes between 5,000 and 7,000 visitors every year, who walk freely through a meticulously planned landscape.

Beehives, an orchard and an organically grown vegetable garden enhance this immersion. Every year, the gardens are enriched with new plantations selected for their resilience and suitability to the site.An environmental approach guided by a long-term vision is applied throughout, with each development aimed at protecting resources and rooting the gardens in a sustainable momentum.

In 2024, EcoJardin certification recognised the efforts ploughed into the Château’s surroundings. Beychevelle thus became the only wine estate in France to boast this exacting label, which rewards management based on sound ecological practices, the promotion of local plant species, balanced soils, and a special focus on biodiversity.

Since 2023, Les Flâneries de Beychevelle offer a new perspective on the gardens. Every summer, an artist is invited to produce a work in situ using materials derived from the estate: a contemporary spin on inhabiting the landscape, aligned with the estate’s history and values.

The art of landscaping

Like the château itself, the gardens of Beychevelle embody an art of enduring time. Conceived as a natural extension of the architecture, they have been shaped and enriched over the centuries to create a structured, vibrant, and sensitive setting.

From the 19th century, successive owners have enhanced the estate’s surroundings: leveling of the courtyard, sculptures, floral arrangements, orangery, aviary… Each intervention reveals a profound dedication to the beauty and staging of the place. Even today, centuries-old trees, flowering beds, and sweeping lines continue this vision of the French garden. From the ancient cedar in the honour courtyard to the fruit trees of the conservatory orchard, every element contributes to the harmony and distinctiveness of the estate.
