The Cellar

Designed as a natural extension of work in the vineyard, Château Beychevelle’s cellar matches technical mastery with precision. Each detail has been conceived to thoroughly support the vinification process and to allow the wines to fully express the identity of their terroir.

AN EXPRESSION OF SAVOIR-FAIRE

A natural extension of the vineyard, Château Beychevelle’s cellar embodies a contemporary vision of wine, where architecture, technology and winemaking precision come together in perfect harmony. Designed in 2016 by the architect Arnaud Boulain, this remarkable vat room combines cutting-edge technology with an unwavering pursuit of winemaking excellence. Featuring pure, elegant lines, it is set partially below ground to ensure a naturally consistent temperature. A bioclimatic and technical achievement, the cellar is designed to regulate light, temperature, humidity and water use, thereby minimizing the consumption of each resource.

A precise facility built to honour the terroir, the vat room comprises 59 tanks, including 37 tapered, double-walled stainless-steel vats, corresponding to the estate’s 90 hectares of vineyards.
Each plot is vinified separately, according to its specific characteristics.
Gravity filling, gentle extraction techniques — (rack and return, pump-overs and punch-downs) and carefully adjusted ageing all work together to reveal the wine’s true identity, never forcing its expression.

Below ground, the barrel cellars hold some 3000 barrels in a sculptural space inspired by the maritime world – a subtle reference to Château Beychevelle’s historic roots.

Every technical gesture is guided by precision and subtlety, allowing each wine to express the purity of the fruit, the depth of the terroir, and the character of the vintage.
